Job Well Done!
Our congratulations and heartfelt thanks go to two of our new sponsors, the Mandeville Seafood Festival and the Rivershack Run! Both July events were fully loaded with record turn-out – excellent news for south Louisiana’s hottest time of the year for outdoor venues.
30 Year Anniversary
The Mandeville Seafood Fest celebrated its 30th year by moving its locale to the sprawling Fontainebleau State Park. And what a great move it was! Record crowds of thousands put a temporary delay on the shuttle bus system, connecting fest goers from Pelican Park to the beach-side park. Within hours, however, more shuttles were brought in and ironed out any bulges from the burgeoning crowds. Nothing could be done, however, about the bulges resulting from all that delicious seafood - but that’s another story. Two stages of incredible entertainment, as well as a children’s tent and comedians’ corner were just tidbits of all that the Fest offered this year. Keep your schedule open for Fourth of July weekend in 2009 – this is one “party with a purpose” you will not want to miss.
Rivershack - Love Shack
The New Orleans Track club again hosted its annual Rivershack Run on the green banks of the Mississippi River, and despite the warmth of a late July evening, nearly 900 runners and fun-walkers laced up and participated in this sunset-to-stars race. Rockabilly-blues whanged from the Rivershack Tavern, while post-race, the runners refueled on red beans-n- rice, fruit, pizza, and cold libations. With such an enormous turnout for a steamy July run, organizers are planning to do a move of their own – next year’s Rivershack Run will be hosted at the end of September when evening temperatures begin to think like autumn. Or for what passes as autumn in New Orleans! We will be livin’ large on the levee – plan on it!
Other “Fun” Raising News
Stay tuned for details about the annual Angels on Earth Foundation golf tournament to be held in October. This event, traditionally held on the gorgeous tree lined course at Abita Country Club, is a favorite for scratch - and just scratchy - golfers alike. Be ready for the infamous 13th hole! This Las Vegas style stop is worth practicing your drives for...because what happens in Vegas…you know.
Have a terrific summer’s end, and check back with us soon!
